Scan-A-Bin helps you catalog household and small-business inventory. To provide the service, we may collect account identifiers (such as email/phone or Sign in with Apple), inventory content you add (bin names, rooms, item lists), and photos you upload for scanning. We use this data to operate the app, improve features, and support account and household sharing. If you enable ads or use AI scanning, third-party providers may process limited data to deliver those features.
Information We Collect
- Account Information: Email, phone, or Apple ID for login and account management.
- Inventory Data: Bin names, rooms, item lists, and any notes or tags you add.
- Photos: Images you upload for scanning or inventory purposes.
- Usage Data: Device type, app version, and basic analytics (no precise location or sensitive device data).
How We Use Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Scan-A-Bin app and its features.
- To support account and household sharing, and to help you organize your inventory.
- To respond to support requests and communicate important updates.
- To analyze usage trends and improve user experience.
AI & Photo Processing
- Photos you upload for scanning may be processed by AI models to identify items or generate QR codes.
- Processing may occur on your device or securely in the cloud, depending on the feature.
- We do not use your photos for training AI models without your explicit consent.
Advertising
- If you use the free version, third-party ad networks (e.g., Google AdMob) may show ads and collect limited device data (such as advertising ID, but not your inventory or photos).
- You can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings.
Data Retention
- We retain your data as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service.
- You can request deletion of your account and data at any time via the app or support.
- We may anonymize or delete inactive accounts after a period of time.
Security
- We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data (encryption, access controls, etc.).
- No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; use the app for intended purposes only.
Children’s Privacy
- Scan-A-Bin is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction).

Do Not Track Signals
- Scan-a-Bin does not currently respond to "Do Not Track" (DNT) browser signals, as no universally accepted standard exists for interpreting them.
- We honor opt-out preference signals (such as the Global Privacy Control, or GPC) to the extent required by applicable law.
- We will continue to monitor developments around DNT and GPC standards.

Canadian Privacy Rights

Biometric Data
- Scan-a-Bin does not knowingly collect biometric identifiers (fingerprints, voiceprints, face geometry, etc.) as defined by BIPA, CUBI, or similar laws.
- Photo processing via AI is designed to detect objects and items, not biometric features of individuals.
- We recommend removing or obscuring identifiable features of people before uploading photos.
- We disclaim liability for biometric information inadvertently contained in user-uploaded photos.
Automated Decision-Making & Profiling
- Scan-a-Bin may use AI-based processing for item detection and inventory assistance only.
- We do not use automated decision-making or profiling to evaluate personal aspects such as economic situation, health, preferences, behavior, or location.

Data Breach Notification
- In the event of a data breach involving your personal information, we will notify you without undue delay as required by applicable law (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, U.S. state breach notification laws).
- Notification may be via email, in-app notification, or website posting.
- We will include: the nature of the breach, categories of data affected, likely consequences, and measures taken or proposed to address the breach.
- We will also notify relevant supervisory authorities and regulators as required.
Third-Party Analytics & Tracking
- We may use third-party analytics services (Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, Google AdMob) to understand app and website usage.
- These services may collect device identifiers, IP address, usage patterns, and diagnostic data.
- Third-party services operate under their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.
- We do not have access to or control over tracking technologies used by third-party services.
Lawful Basis for Processing

- Vital Interests: In rare cases, to protect the vital interests of you or another person.
Data Minimization & Purpose Limitation
- We collect only the personal information necessary for the purposes described in this policy.
- We do not use personal information for purposes incompatible with those for which it was collected, unless we have your consent or it is permitted by law.
- We regularly review data we hold to ensure it remains relevant, accurate, and necessary.
- Data no longer needed is deleted or anonymized within a reasonable period.
Household Sharing & Privacy
- Inventory data you add to a shared household will be visible to all current and future household members.
- Household owners may invite/remove members, manage permissions, and control shared data access.
- Leaving a household may cause you to lose access to its data. Data you contributed may remain for other members.
- We are not responsible for how other household members use, share, copy, or disclose shared data.
- Only invite individuals you trust. Do not store sensitive or regulated data in shared households.
